The Tuesday, August 12, 1969, daily summary from Military Assistance Command - Vietnam (MACV) read: "HQ MACV - - During the 24-hour period ending at 0800 today, 149 indirect fire attacks were reported throughout the counry, 61 of which were against U.S. units or installations. Of the 149 attacks, 68 caused casualties or damage. U.S. casualties were 11 killed and 122 wounded."

The Virtual Wall records show that the United States Army lost 13 men killed in the various 24 hour actions ending at 0800 hours on August 12th in what was called the TOAN THANG Offensive occurring at that time in Bin Long Province. They were:

The events depicted below took place for the 24 hour period starting at 0800 hours, 11 August 1969 and ending at 0800 hours, 12 August 1969. One of the summary events is further expanded by entries from the Daily Staff Journal, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) for the period 0001 hours to 2400 hours on 12 August and includes events that took the lives of SP4 Mensing of the 1st of the 4th Cav and SP4 Shaw, 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry.
