The date of Nov 11, 1967 will live forever in my mind as a survivor of that battle for a small hill so far away. It's guys like you that makes America truly the land that one is proud to call home. Men like yourself that die unselfishly will always be known as a fallen comrade and a hero. Rest peacefully in God's arms, my brother, for we all left something behind on Hill 724 that we shall never regain.

A Note from The Virtual WallIn early November 1967 units of the 4th Infantry Division were engaged in heavy fighting at Hill 724 in Kontum Province. A total of 48 American soldiers died in separate engagements on 04, 07, 08, 10, and 11 November. The heaviest fighting was on 11 Nov 1967 (Veterans' Day), with 21 dead from the 3rd Battalion, 8th Infantry. B Company bore the brunt of the Battalion's losses - 17 of 21 total. |
