Jackson died from wounds caused by small arms file during a contact with a hostile force in the vicinity of Trung Lap, 11 Kilometers E-NE of Trang Bang, Republic of Vietnam. He was survived by his parents, Mrs and Mr Richard L. Jackson Jr., Maplewood Drive, Columbia, Missouri. He is buried in Saint Boniface Cemetery, Brunswick, Missouri.
