Born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The son of John L. Greiger of Milwaukee who attended Wells Junior High and then a Vocational School. Entered the Marine Corps on December 27, 1968 and went on active duty January 29, 1969 for recruit training at San Diego, California. Upon completion, he was further assigned to Camp Pendleton, California for advanced training. He started his tour of Vietnam on 14 October 1969. Marine PFC Donald L Grieger was killed in an accident (cargo shifted) aboard the USS Ogden (LPD-5), an Austin-class amphibious transport dock. USS Ogden was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for Ogden, Utah. She was used for taking Marines and their equipment to Vietnam. On her return passages, she transported damaged vehicles home for repair. Other than his father John, our records do not show who he was survived by upon his death. He was buried alongside his father at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. - - The Virtual Wall, November 4, 2014
