A Note from The Virtual WallLittle information is available regarding the loss of Captain James Dawson. Hobson's Vietnam Air Losses says only that"A Super Sabre was lost in an accident just off the coast of South Vietnam during an attack mission in which the pilot was killed."while the US Navy's Coastal Division 15 Command History for 1969 contains the entry "16 JUL [1969] - One F-100 crashed in the vicinity of Tuy Hoa AFB and PCFs 73 and 91 participated in the SAR effort for a period of about eight hours. Numerous pieces of the downed aircraft were located, but no sign of the pilot was found. PCF 91 provided service as a diving platform for AF scuba divers searching for the plane."Captain Dawson's remains were not recovered. |
