21 GUN SALUTE

I stand there at attention
As I see them walking by.
I look upon Old Glory,
And I feel the urge to cry.
I see the men standing there
Their weapons by their sides.
I see their stern expressions
And the sorrow in their eyes.
I see all the families
As they join us here this day.
We bow our heads in respect
And silently we pray.
Our moods are very somber
Not a smile can be found.
The silence lies heavily
Until the bugle sounds.
The flag is carefully folded
And handed to his wife.
I see his daughter crying
Because he had lost his life.
Twenty-one shots are fired,
As they have always done before,
To salute another man
Who gave his life in war.
I feel the tears upon my cheeks
And the tightness in my chest
As I watch a fellow ARMY man
Finally laid to rest.

This is for my brother, Pvt Albert Cleveland, 919th Engr, 11th Cavalry, killed in action on 04-17-67 and all the brave men and women who have given their lives for our country. Please support our military whether you agree with war or not. Remember they are doing their JOB for us. Take time to say "Thank you" if you see someone in uniform. May God bless them all and their families.
