I never met this brave man, but I visit his gravesite often to pay my respects. He was a medic for the 11th Light Infantry, and gave his life for us on February 25, 1969. I first saw his name last year when I visited Portland's memorial to Vietnam veterans. Francis was born in Eugene, Oregon, and was only 20 when he died. I thank God daily that I am free because of all the men living or gone who gave their all. Someday I will travel to Washington D.C. and leave flowers at the Wall for all those brave souls.
